Water, Decyl Polyglucose, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, C 12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Panthenol ,PEG 150 Pentaerythrityl Tetrastearate, Fragrance, Propylene Glycol (and) Diazolidinyl Urea (and) Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate.
Tips
GLS lathers a lot more than Hair Cleansing Cream and thus removes build up better. To get the best results, massage it gently into your scalp to produce the lather. Finger-comb the lather through the length of your hair and rinse well. Don’t bunch your hair up on the top of your head when you wash it, as this causes major tangles. Sometimes I like to mix Hair Cleansing Cream and Gentle Lather in my hand and wash with both of them. It produces more lather than HCC alone, and is more moisturizing than GLS. The best of both worlds!
Ingredients:
Water, Decyl Polyglucose, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Vegetable Glycerin, Cetyl Alcohol, Avocado Oil, C 12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, Hydrolyzed Oat Flour, Diazolidinyl Urea, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate, Fragrance.
Tips
This is my personal favorite product, as traditional shampoos had become such a nightmare for me. (For more on my views of traditional shampoo, visit our About Us section) The cleansing agents in this cleanser are two of the most gentle available ensuring that it won't dry out your hair. If it's been a few days since you last washed your hair, you might not experience a huge amount of lather on your first application of Hair Cleansing Cream. This does NOT mean that your hair isn't clean. If you desire a more robust lather, washing a second time through should satisfy your needs. For an even more in depth cleaning, leave the lathered Hair Cleansing Cream on your hair for a few minutes before rinsing it out. This cleanser is gentle enough to be used every day, and is perfectly safe for color treated hair. I also like using it as body wash with a bath poof it leaves my skin SO much softer than soap.

- Oil Blend For Softer Hair
- Stimulating Scalp Massage Oil
Ingredients:
Water infused with Lemongrass, Nettle, Burdock, Kelp, Marshmallow Root, Horsetail, Basil, Bay Leaf, Oregano, Rosemary, Peppermint, Sage, and Thyme; Aloe Vera Juice, Behentrimonium Methosulfate and Cetearyl Alcohol, Coconut Oil, Jojoba Oil, Avocado Oil, Hydrolyzed Oat Flour, Diazolidinyl Urea, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate, Fragrance.
Tips
Aloeba was created as a daily rinse-out conditioner light enough for fine hair, but we've heard from many people that they're using it as a leave in too. That's great! The fact that the formula is free of silicones and proteins means that you can leave it in without fear of you hair drying out over time.
Ingredients:
Water infused with Lemongrass, Nettle, Burdock, Kelp, Marshmallow Root,Horsetail, Basil, Bay Leaf, Oregano, Rosemary, Peppermint, Sage, and Thyme; Aloe Vera Juice, Behentrimonium Methosulfate and Cetearyl Alcohol, Shea Butter, Jojoba Oil, Avocado Oil, Lecithin, Hydrolyzed Oat Flour, Diazolidinyl Urea, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate, Fragrance.
Tips
Too Shea is intended to be a daily rinse-out conditioner for dry, coarse hair, though I've heard from some finer haired curlies that it works wonders for them too. All right! It is pretty moisturizing, and may be too heavy for curls that weigh down easily. Since some people WANT their hair weighed down, however, it can serve that purpose as well. If your hair is at all damaged, this is a great conditioner for you. Too Shea! is also popular as both a leave-in conditioner AND as a deep treatment. So you can pretty much use it however you like. I’ve even used it as hand lotion!
Ingredients:
Water infused with Lemongrass, Nettle, Burdock, Kelp,Marshmallow Root, Horsetail, Basil, Bay Leaf, Oregano, Rosemary, Peppermint,Sage, and Thyme; Behentrimonium Methosulfate (and) Cetearyl Alcohol, Shea Butter, Avocado Oil, Cocoa Butter, Lecithin, Aloe Vera Powder, Diazolidinyl Urea (and) Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate, Fragrance.
Tips
This conditioner is really intended to be used once a week, for 20-30 minutes, in order to really replenish your hair after a week of styling. If your hair is very fine and gets weighed down easily, you may want to either limit the amount of time it's left in your hair, OR, wash your hair after using it. I use it every Sunday for an hour, with my Hair Therapy Wrap and my Monday hair is always super duper soft!
Ingredients:
Avocado Oil, Jojoba Oil, Coconut Oil, Fragrance.
Tips
This oil blend does wonders for softening dry, parched hair. It can be used with heat as a hot oil treatment, on wet hair as a leave in moisturizer, or on dry hair to help calm frizzies. I like to add a few drops to my wet hair after an evening shower and wash it out in the morning.
Ingredients:
Coconut Oil, Avocado Oil and Olive Oil infused with Horsetail, Marshmallow, Basil, Burdock, Nettle, Coltsfoot, Parsley, Sage, Oregano, Lemongrass, Peppermint, Rosemary, Bay Leaf, and Thyme and essential oils of Peppermint, Cedarwood, Sage, Eucalyptus, Lavender, and Rosemary.
Tips
This stuff is seriously potent! A scalp massage with this will leave your scalp tingly all over, and your hair much softer. It's even better when someone else does the massage for you! Spray it directly onto your scalp and massage it in. After a few minutes you'll start to feel the tingle. You can leave it in for an hour and then wash it out, or wait until the next morning to wash it out. A warning to those leaving it in overnight, I've found that if I use it too close to bedtime, the peppermint smell keeps me awake at night. For this reason, it's better to use it far in advance of bedtime if you're going to leave it in overnight. It can be used on either wet or dry hair, but I find that using it on wet hair allows for better absorption into my hair. For an added treat, use the Hair Therapy Wrap after doing the scalp massage the combo of the tingle and the warmth feels REALLY great.
- Confident Coils Styling Solution®
- Rockin' Ringlets Styling Potion™
- Gelebration
Spray - Awe Inspiraling Spray
Ingredients:
Water, VP/VA Copolymer, Polyimide-1, C 12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Cetearyl Alcohol (and) Polysorbate 60; Jojoba Oil, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride (and) Dehydroxanthan Gum, Aloe Vera Powder, Magnesium Sulfate, Diazolidinyl Urea (and) Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate, Fragrance.
Tips
Confident Coils Styling Solution is a versatile product that can be used by many different hair types to achieve various results. It was designed to be used with Rockin' Ringlets or Gelebration Spray and most people find they get the best results by using them together.
If your hair is tightly coiled and doesn't need curl enhancement, use CCSS alone for excellent definition, hold, humidity protection and softness. If you have a looser curl pattern (like me), use it with Rockin' Ringlets or Gelebration to get the curl enhancement, letting CCSS provide all day hold and humidity protection. When used in the right amount, wavy hair will also get great clumping from Confident Coils without becoming weighed down. The trick is not to use too much. CCSS is more concentrated than Rockin' Ringlets, so when using them together, it is key to use LESS Confident Coils than you do Rockin' Ringlets. If you've been using RR, start out by using slightly less than you've been using and then about half that amount of CCSS. Using too much of any product can weigh down your hair, so if you find this is happening when you introduce CCSS into your routine, use less of it next time.
Like most styling products, it's best to apply CCSS to soaking wet hair to ensure adequate distribution. It can be raked through or scrunched in depending on what method of application works best for you. When used alone Confident Coils results in minimal crunch. If you do experience some crunchiness, you can easily scrunch it out once your hair dries.
Ingredients:
Water, Flax Seeds, Aloe Vera, Glycerin, Jojoba Oil, Magnesium Sulfate, Diazolidinyl Urea (and) Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate, Fragrance.
Tips
This styling potion is much thinner than traditional gels, which makes it much easier to evenly distribute through masses of thick curls. The trick is to apply it to soaking wet hair. This is true for most styling products, as it's best to get the product into your hair as soon as possible after showering to keep it from frizzing out as it dries.
As our videos demonstrate, it's best to apply quarter-sized puddles of RR at a time to keep any of it from running through your fingers. The number of puddles you'll need will depend on how much hair you have and how much hold you're trying to achieve. For my shoulder length, super thick hair I use about 3 quarter sized puddles followed by a couple spritzes of Gelebration Spray to target my 'trouble areas'. (such as the pieces right by my ears for some reason I can't get a decent coating of RR right there and the Gelebration Spray is easier to get *right there*).
As Rockin' Ringlets is almost entirely all natural, it will never build up or cause flaking. Some people experience a small amount of crunch as it dries, but this can easily be scrunched out once it's fully dry. Scrunching before your hair is totally dry will contribute to frizz, so make sure it's all the way dry before scrunching out the crunch. You can alleviate some or all of the crunch by using a small amount of a leave in conditioner under your RR. Many of our customers use Aloeba as a leave in, and some even mix their RR WITH Aloeba in the same bottle to limit the amount of steps in their styling routine.
Ingredients:
Water, Flax Seeds, Aloe Vera, Glycerin, Jojoba Oil, Magnesium Sulfate, Diazolidinyl Urea (and) Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate, Fragrance.
Tips
The instructions for using Gelebration Spray are basically the same as RR, but you spray it in rather than apply it with your hands. It's super lightweight and hasn't been shown to be too heavy for even the finest of hair. Again, applying it to soaking wet hair will ensure that it is evenly distributed. We don't recommend using either RR or Gelebration on dry hair, as it could end up crunchier than you'd like. If you've found otherwise, feel free to let me know! As with RR, you can add some Aloeba to your Gelebration spray to act as a leave in conditioner.
Ingredients:
Water, Aloe Vera, Glycerin, Jojoba Oil, Magnesium Sulfate, Diazolidinyl Urea (and) Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate, Fragrance.
Tips
This is a lightweight curl enhancer that won't add weight to your hair. Its main purpose is to be used as a refresher on dry hair, but it can also be used on wet hair to aid in curl enhancement. This product has NO hold, so we don't recommend using it by itself. It's very concentrated, so less is more.
Awe Inspiraling Spray works really well with a pea-sized drop of Confident Coils to re-style curls mid day. Put a drop of CCSS in the palm of your hand, spray with some Awe Inspiraling Spray, rub your hands together and scrunch. It will help to perk up and re-clump your curls. You can also add some Aloeba Daily Conditioner to your bottle of Awe Inspiraling Spray to make a lightweight leave in conditioning spray that enhances curls!

Ingredients Philosophy
I developed the Jessicurl line after realizing that most products on the market contain ingredients that are bad for my hair. Whether drying alcohols in hair gels, or harsh detergents in shampoos, nothing ever seemed to treat my hair with the respect I felt it deserved. This article is intended to educate other curlies as to why I avoid certain ingredients.
Let's start with silicones. Silicones are viscous oily liquids that coat the hair shaft in gloss, giving the illusion of healthy sheen. As most curly hair tends to be dry and often frizzy, silicones seem like the miracle ingredient to combat these complaints. The downside is that most silicones are not water soluble, and can only be removed with harsh detergents. The very detergents needed to remove the silicones strip the hair of all its natural oils, leaving it stripped and straw-like. This causes the user to think she needs more silicones to combat the dryness. Thus, the cycle begins again. If the user is not using these harsh detergents to remove the silicones, they can build up, creating a barrier on the hair shaft. This barrier prevents moisturizing conditioners from penetrating the hair, further drying it out.
Jessicurl products do not use any silicones. I feel that by using ingredients that IMPROVE the health of the hair rather than masking the damage, the end result is a much more vibrant head of curls.
I also refuse to use any drying alcohols in my styling products. Many hair gels contain SD alcohol, isopropyl alcohol or denatured alcohol. These ingredients are often included to help the hair dry faster during the styling process. The end result is that they also dry the hair out over time, leaving the user desperate for something to fix the dryness...like maybe a silicone serum perhaps? It truly never ends.
There ARE, however, a number of alcohols that are actually good for the hiar, and are what provide the creamy consistency to most conditioners. The good ones are Lauryl alcohol, Cetyl alcohol, Myristyl alcohol, Stearyl alcohol, Cetearyl alcohol and Behenyl alcohol. The bad ones are SD alcohol, SD alcohol 40, Alcohol denat, Propanol, Propyl alcohol and Isopropyl alcohol. You will never find any of the bad ones in any of my products and are better off avoiding them all together, as they're really just horrible for curly hair.
Another problem area for curly hair is shampoo. Personally, the wrong shampoo is my fastest ticket to a bad hair day. Curly hair tends to be drier than straight hair, one reason being that the oils naturally produced by the scalp have a hard time making their way down all of our loopy ringlets. Add to this the fact that most curly heads (with good reason) don't brush their hair, and you have the potential for real dryness, even on hair that is not chemically treated. When using a shampoo that has any of the Sulfate surfactants in it, the curls are often left stripped, parched and looking like straw. I speak from experience on this one. I used to dread the 2 days a week I forced myself to wash my hair. I just KNEW I'd have bad hair for a few days until my scalp could replenish the oils I stripped from it. I'd even plan my hair washing around important events - if the prom was on Saturday, I’d wash my hair no later than Wednesday to help increase my chances of a good hair day. I was unaware that the ingredients in the shampoo made such a difference, and it wasn’t until I began making my own with gentle cleansing agents that I could wash my hair and have it actually look good the SAME day.
Because of this, my Gentle Lather Shampoo and Hair Cleansing Cream use only the most gentle cleansing agents, such as Decyl Polyglucose and Cocamidopropyl Betaine, ensuring that the user has a good hair day EVERY day, not just 3 days after washing.
I am not interested in creating unhealthy dependency on Jessicurl products. My conditioners moisturize without coating the hair, the cleansers gently wash without stripping, and the styling products sculpt soft curls without building up on the hair. I believe in treating your hair with respect, and feel that you’ll really like the results.
Why We Use The Ingredients We Use
As the Home page states, each ingredient in every Jessicurl product is there for the specific positive effect it will have on your hair - there is no filler. Below you will find each ingredient used and an explanation as to why. I’ll also indicate which ones are all natural, which are not, and which are naturally DERIVED but not what I would consider to be all natural. Education is key to making the most of your curls, so this should help you better understand why our products work for you.
You can also rest assured that NONE of our products contain any animal ingredients, nor do we test on animals. All of our products are tested on many heads of curls - people who actually want to be a part of the development. These aspects of Jessicurl will never change.
Aloe Vera - All natural. Moisturizes the hair without adding heaviness.
Avocado Oil , Coconut Oil- All natural. Some of the best oils for hair. Add moisture, softness and shine.
Behentrimonium Methosulfate and Cetearyl Alcohol - Naturally derived, but not all natural. Emulsify and thicken the conditioner. Also aids in static control and comb ability. This is what makes the conditioners creamy and detangling.
C 12-15 Alkyl Benzoate - Not what I would consider to be natural. . This emollient ester provides light conditioning with a silky-soft after feel.
Cetyl Alcohol - Not what I would consider to be natural. Fatty, emollient alcohol. Thickens formula. This is NOT a drying alcohol.
Cocoa Butter - All natural. Another extremely moisturizing butter that softens the hair.
Cetearyl Alcohol (and) Polysorbate 60 - Not what I would consider to be natural. The combination of these two ingredients is what makes Confident Coils so nice and creamy. The Cetearyl Alcohol is a fatty alcohol and is actually good for your hair. It helps to moisturize the hair.
Decyl Polyglucose and Cocamidopropyl Betaine - Naturally derived but not all natural cleansing agents. Derived from sugar and coconut. Two of the most gentle cleansers on the market, these keep our Hair Cleansing Cream from stripping your hair but still get it clean.
Dehydroxanthan Gum - All natural. This is part of what makes Confident Coils so superb at creating chunky, defined curls. It also re-activates really well with water, making it easier to perk curls back up mid-day if they suffer a set back. :-)
Diazolidinyl Urea (and) Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate - Not natural. Preservatives that keep the products from going bad. The usage rate is well below 1% of the entire weight of the formula, so we’re using enough to preserve the products but not so much that it could irritate your skin. Even with preservatives in products, it’s important to keep water and other stuff out of your products, or they could end up going bad. Close those caps!!
Flax Seeds - All natural, organic. These provide a light hold that rinses out clean and will not build up. They’re what makes Rockin’ Ringlets and Gelebration Spray brown.
Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride - Naturally derived. Thickens formula, very conditioning. Helps to leave hair silky soft.
Hydrolyzed Oat Flour - All natural. Helps to thicken the formula and adds moisture to the hair.
Jojoba Oil - All natural. This oil is the closest of all oils to our skins own natural sebum. Adds softness and shine to hair. Some people find their hair does not like Jojoba oil, but for most curlies it works wonderfully.
Lecithin - All natural. Moisturizing and nourishing. We use only soy lecithin.
Magnesium Sulfate - All natural. This is plain old Epsom salt you’d soak your tired muscles in. The magnesium is a powerful curl enhances, which is why we use it in our styling products.
Polyimide 1 - Not natural. Another of the holding ingredients in Confident Coils. This ingredient is particularly powerful at providing humidity protection to keep curls well defined.
Shea Butter - All natural. An extremely moisturizing butter that comes from the Karite tree in Africa.
Vegetable Glycerin - All natural. This is a humectant, meaning it draws moisture from the air into the hair shaft, resulting in much softer hair. While it won’t build up on the hair, using too much at once can make your hair look greasy until you wash it again.
VP/VA Copolymer - Not natural. This provides some of the hold in Confident Coils. This ingredient is only found in Confident Coils.
Water infused with Horsetail, Marshmallow, Basil, Burdock, Nettle, Coltsfoot, Parsley, Sage, Oregano, Lemongrass, Peppermint, Rosemary, Bay Leaf, and Thyme - All natural, and 30% organic. This is our special “Hair Tea” used in our conditioners. All of these herbs are good for hair, aiding in softness, shine and overall health of the hair.
