This method helps maximize hydration and create defined curl/wave formation by repeatedly submerging the hair after washing.
This technique's big draw is locking in hydration and adding shine to curls. Curls clump together better when the hair is wet rather than damp; therefore, applying products to soaking wet hair creates smoother curls/waves with minimal frizz.
BOWL METHOD STEPS
- After shampooing & conditioning, apply a leave-in conditioner or cream of choice
- Fill up a bowl with cold water
- Flip your head over and rake through the hair to ensure there are no tangles (you can use a brush if you prefer)
- Repeatedly dunk your hair into the bowl, ensuring all the hair is fully saturated, and scrunch the hair with your hands. repeat 3-4 times
- I’ve found that micro-plopping with a microfiber towel after the last submersion helps remove any excess water not needed
- Then coat the hair with your gel or mousse by glazing the product over your curls/waves
This technique can help reduce frizz by distributing the conditioner and curl cream evenly throughout the hair. The constant upside-down motion of the method can also increase the volume of the curls as gravity lifts the curls away from the root.
It’s not for everyone, and it may not be for every wash day, but it definitely gives extra definition and volume and who doesn’t want that!
