How to Tame Halo Frizz

by Chief Educator Claire

The change in weather can mean halo frizz can be more of an issue this time of year.

Getting caught in damp, wet, windy conditions all add to the little bit more functional frizz that most of us have come to embrace. The most important thing is to acknowledge that you can't get rid of it completely; this is neither unobtainable nor necessary, and functional frizz is normal!

WHAT IS HALO FRIZZ? WHAT CAUSES IT?

This kind of frizz refers to the frustrating, unruly hair on the crown/scalp area, creating a halo-like effect. The leading cause of frizz is dehydration, however other various factors such as humidity, excessive heat styling, and hair damage can cause the same effect. In addition to this, your crown is the most exposed and open to the elements daily.

HOW TO TAME IT?

This is my favorite way to tame the crown/root area; it's a really simple yet effective way to keep those strands in check with not too much additional product needed.

Start by sectioning off hair around your crown. Make sure to split the section if it's too big and remove any smaller pieces of hair from the part you sectioned off to prevent any frizz down the line. Completely saturate the section with water of Awe Inspiralling Refresher Spray and pull up. Release the tension and drop the strand down slightly to see if there are any other pieces that don't belong. Then take a very small amount of Confident Coils Styling Solution or Spiralicious Styling Gel and slide it up through the hair and put that section aside. Repeat these steps with other sections around your crown.

📌Curly Tip: Only do this where needed; take sections or individual curls. Don't approach this area as a whole.
