Nutrition & Hair

by Chief Educator Claire

We often prioritize how our hair looks on the outside and focus on treating any issue there instead of starting at the root.

Healthy hair really does come from within; therefore, ensuring our diet is always well-balanced is essential for a healthy body, lifestyle, and hair.

These three areas can have a significant effect on the hair's health.

ILLNESS & STRESS

Unfortunately for our hair, its health isn’t a priority for our body if something more critical requires attention. Feeling run down, stressed, fighting an illness or experiencing physical trauma can indirectly affect your hair’s health; for your body to heal and deal with any of these issues, the body’s nutritional requirement for repair increases. In times like this, your body will divert nutrition towards vital bodily functions that need it, and your hair will take a back seat.

VITAMINS

There are several vital vitamins and minerals which are essential for healthy hair.

  • Biotin (or vitamin B7)
  • Iron
  • Zinc
  • Vitamin C & D

Keeping topped up on these helps in all areas of hair health from follicles to growth and density.

WATER

Water also plays a massive part in ensuring our hair receives the nutrients it needs. Much like a plant needs water to grow, so does hair. Water is a critical ingredient supporting vitamins, contributing to your hair growth. Staying hydrated on the inside is essential, but it can also contribute to hair growing longer.
