Maybe you’re just starting your curl journey and transitioning from years of straightening, watching over-processed curls grow out, or your hair is just feeling a bit drier than usual.

I've had a lot of emails about how to troubleshoot dry hair, so I wanted to share how to bring your curls back to life with my top tips.

NOURISH

A great way to add a surge of moisture to your hair is a hot oil treatment or adding some heat to your deep conditioner. Adding heat opens the cuticle, allowing the product to penetrate the hair shaft and moisturize deeply. A flaxseed cap is a great way to do this!

ASSESS YOUR PRODUCTS

Protein buildup is often mistaken for dry hair. Protein buildup can lead to dry and dull hair that might feel stiff or break easily, so you can see where the confusion lies.

Look at the products you frequently use; if most or all contain a good amount of protein, it may be time to switch out or add one with more moisturizing properties.

PROTECT YOUR CURLS AT NIGHT

Switching to a silk or satin pillowcase will reduce friction whilst you sleep due to them being smoother than cotton. Making this small change will help preserve the natural oils in your hair and reduce breakage, so you’ll wake up to smoother, healthier curls.

BOOK A CUT

Whether you’re ready for the ‘big chop’ or a little trim; seek a stylist that is curl competent. A good cut will eliminate damaged ends and stop further damage from travelling up the hair shaft helping bring out your best curls, waves and coils.
